AUSTIN, Texas - The Methodist women's tennis team finished a successful spring break trip to Texas with a 7-2 win over Austin College. With the win, the Monarchs move to 9-2 on the season and finish 4-0 in Texas.
Methodist took the 2-1 lead after doubles.
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Katherine Meindl won 8-4 at number one and
Kelli Shelton and
Stacey Brooks won 8-5 at number three.
Rachel Purser and
Dana Powell lost 8-5 at number two.
In singles, Flaherty won 6-3, 6-0 at number one and Meindl won 6-2, 6-0 at number two. After splitting the first two sets, Purser finished with the 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 win in a super tiebreaker. Brayton lost 6-4, 3-6, 11-9 in a super tiebreaker. Powell earned the 6-3, 6-1 win at number five and
Jennifer Hamel took the 6-3, 6-0 win at number six.
The Monarchs will return to Fayetteville on Saturday with plans to open USA South Athletic Conference action at home on Tuesday against Greensboro College at 3 p.m.
