NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - No. 5 Christopher Newport jumped on top early and finished with two 8-0 wins over the Methodist softball team.
In game one, the Captains rattled off eight runs in the first inning with four hits and three Methodist errors. Methodist's
Katie Scheller prevented the no-hitter in the third inning with a single to left center, but the Monarchs could not score as Christopher Newport finished with the 8-0 win.
Emily Beck took the loss for the Monarchs in four innings pitched scattering six hits. Kristen Rowe picked up her fifth win of the season for CNU with eight strikeouts in five innings.
The Captains scored a run in the second inning of game two to take a 1-0 lead before tacking on five runs in the fourth inning to lead 6-0. The Monarchs picked up four hits in the game, but Christopher Newport added two runs in the fifth to finish with the 8-0 win.
Darci Martin was 2-for-2 at the plate while
Kimber Hall and
Cortney Kerns each added a hit for the Monarchs.
Alex Bass earned the loss in the circle with four innings pitched.
The Monarchs will host Rutgers-Camden on Sunday in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
