FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team finished with a USA South Athletic Conference sweep over Ferrum with an 11-2 victory on Sunday.
The Monarchs' offense got hot in the second inning with eight runs including four home runs.
Brian Halpin led off with a home run and the Monarchs put together four hits before
Brian Inghram,
Trey Such, and Halpin hit consecutive home runs for the 8-0 lead.
Ferrum got on the board with a run in the fifth, but Methodist came back with three runs in the fifth to go ahead 11-1. The Panthers scored an unearned run in the seventh, but the Monarchs finished with the 11-2 win.
Halpin finished 3-for-5 on the day while
Shawn Lovette was 3-for-4.
Kurt Kelly picked up a win on the mound pitching 8.0 innings and striking out nine.
Hunter Ennis finished the final inning.
Methodist freshman
Tyler Wiles had the opportunity to pinch hit in the seventh while his brother, Jordan Wiles, pinch hit in the eighth for Ferrum giving the brothers an opportunity to play against each other with a number of family and friends in town for support.
The Monarchs will host Tufts University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
