Methodist Defeats Tufts 16-8

Brian Inghram hit 4-for-5 with seven RBI

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Tufts University tried to rally late, but the Methodist baseball team finished strong with the 16-8 win and their 16th victory of the season.

The Monarchs jumped out to the 4-0 lead after a sacrifice fly from Brian Inghram and a two-run home run from Trey Such. Matt Quick finished up with a RBI single to score Brian Goodwin. Methodist's Shawn Lovette hit a two-run home run in the second and the team tacked on six runs in the third including a three-RBI triple by Inghram.

The Jumbos got on the board in the fifth with an unearned run, but the Monarchs went ahead 13-1 in the seventh after doubles from Lovette and Inghram. Tufts responded with seven runs in the top of the eighth to move within five, but Methodist added three in the bottom of the inning to finish with the 16-8 win.

Inghram finished 4-for-5 at the plate with seven RBI. Lovette and Quick went 3-for-4 on the day.

Sean Willingham earned the win on the mound pitching five innings with just one hit and six strikeouts. Hunter Ennis and Tre' Britt pitched an inning a piece while John Markley and Rusty White finished in relief.

The Monarchs will travel to N.C. Wesleyan this weekend for a two-game USA South series.
