FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - In a highly anticipated rematch of the 2009 USA South Women's Tennis Tournament Championship, Methodist outlasted Meredith 5-4.
The Monarchs took the 2-1 lead after doubles.
Heather Brayton and
Jennifer Hamel won 8-3 at number three and
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Katherine Meindl won 8-2 at number one.
Rachel Purser and
Dana Powell dropped the number two doubles match 8-4.
Flaherty made quick work of the number one singles match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory for the 3-1 lead before
Kelli Shelton lost 6-0, 6-0 at number six. Meindl won 6-0, 6-2 at number two and Brayton clinched the win with a 7-5, 6-0 win at number four singles. Powell lost 7-5, 3-6, 10-3 at number five and Purser lost 7-6, 3-6, 10-4 at number three after winning six straight games in the first set.
The Monarchs will be back at home on Saturday to host Ferrum at 12:30 pm.
