ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan tied the game at two in the fifth, but Methodist slipped by the Bishops 3-2 to move to 6-3 in the USA South.
With the score tied at two after five innings, Methodist's
Shawn Lovette drew a walk in the seventh and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Brian Inghram singled to left field to score Lovette for what would be the game-winning run.
The Monarchs took the early lead when Lovette walked in the first and scored on a double from Inghram. They extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth when
Brian Goodwin singled to left and scored on a failed pickoff attempt.
N.C. Wesleyan put together a two-out rally in the fifth to score two unearned runs and tie the game, but the Monarchs battled back to take the lead in the seventh.
Landon Jordan pitched 7.1 innings to earn the win with six hits and seven strikeouts.
Rusty White earned the save with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
Inghram led the Monarchs at the plate hitting 3-for-3 with two RBI. Lovette went 2-for-3 with two walks.
The Monarchs will take on N.C. Wesleyan again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
