ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team was looking for a sweep on Sunday but after falling behind 3-0 early, the Monarchs took a 4-1 loss to N.C. Wesleyan.

The Bishops rattled off four hits in the third inning to take the 3-0 lead. Methodist's Matt Quick led off the fifth with a single and moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Ryan Stack grounded out to first allowing Quick to score moving the Monarchs within two.

N.C. Wesleyan added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth and pitcher Andrew Webb shut down the Monarchs' offense to finish with the 4-1 win.

Kurt Kelly went the distance on the mound for the Monarchs scattering eight hits with three strikeouts.

Methodist had five hits from five different players. Stack had the Monarchs' only RBI.

The Monarchs will host Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
