RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist softball team took game one 7-2 over Meredith before falling 4-2 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Meredith scored first with a run in the bottom of the first but Methodist tied the game in the third with a home run by
Darci Martin. The Monarchs took the lead in the fifth with a RBI from Martin and
Kimber Hall.
Methodist's
Alex Winters sparked a four run sixth with a lead-off single. The Monarchs picked up two walks and capitalized on an error to move ahead 7-1. The Avenging Angels came back with a run in the seventh, but lost 7-2 to Methodist.
Alex Bass pitched 6.1 innings to earn the win while
Lysuelle Slaughter finished in relief. Martin was 2-for-3 with three RBI and
Crystal Metzger was 2-for-4.
Meredith came back with two runs in the first inning of game two after rattling off three hits. Methodist responded with two runs of their own in the top of the second with a two-RBI single from Hall.
In the third inning Meredith put together another three hits to take the 4-2 lead. The Monarchs stranded six base runners in the final four innings leaving Meredith with the win.
Heather Anderson pitched 5.0 innings to take the loss with Slaughter finishing with a scoreless inning of relief.
Jody Eyler went 2-for-2 and Hall was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The Monarchs will host Ferrum on Friday at 1 p.m.
