Methodist Baseball Comes From Behind to Win 5-3

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Randolph-Macon took the 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth, but the Monarchs roared back to win 5-3.

Each team scored a run in the first inning for a tied game through the first four innings. The Yellow Jackets (4-3) took the 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth with a run on two hits. Randolph-Macon took the 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth with a two-out single from Brian Jordan.

Methodist's Shawn Lovette cut the lead to one with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth. Brian Goodwin sparked a rally in the seventh with a one-out single to left. Xavier Mayo followed up with a single and after Matt Quick drew the walk, Goodwin tied the game on a Randolph-Macon balk.

Tripp Lancaster came through with a single through the left side for Mayo and Quick to score and give the Monarchs the 5-3 win.

Freshman Sean Willingham threw the first 5.2 innings scattering eight hits and six strikeouts. Tre Britt entered in the sixth to earn the win with five strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

Lancaster and Lovette were both 2-for-4 in the win.

Matt Tiller took the loss for Randolph-Macon.

The Monarchs will travel to Danville, Va. this weekend to take on Averett in a two-game USA South series.
