FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team trailed 3-2 late, but rallied in the bottom of the ninth to come away with the 4-3 win.
Emory took the 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Monarchs came back and took the lead in the fifth with a RBI-double from
Trey Such and a sacrifice fly by
Brian Halpin for the 2-1 advantage.
The Eagles came right back in the top of the sixth and put together two hits for two runs and regain the lead. The Methodist offense came up short through the eighth before mounting a comeback in the ninth.
Shawn Lovette, Such and Halpin drew walks to load the bases.
Brian Goodwin came to the plate with two outs and with two strikes hit one to the fence in left field scoring Lovette and pinch runner
Tyler Wiles for the 4-3 win.
Such finished 2-for-3 with a RBI to lead the Monarchs at the plate.
Sean Willingham pitched 7.1 innings scattering 11 hits with two strikeouts. Tre' Britt finished the eighth inning before
Rusty White pitched a scoreless ninth with three strikeouts for the win.
Zeb Heidt took the loss for Emory.
Methodist and Emory will be back at Armstrong-Shelley Field at Sunday for a 2 p.m. start.
