BURLINGTON, N.C. - Methodist took the 14-2 win over Greensboro College in their first game of the USA South Tournament.
Matt Quick doubled down the right field line to score
Trey Such and give Methodist the 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Trey Such blasted a two-run home run over the fence in right center for the 3-0 advantage after three innings.
The Monarchs rattled off five runs in the fourth backed by a three-run home run by
Brian Inghram. Greensboro came back with two unearned runs in the top of the fifth before Methodist's
Xavier Mayo singled in the bottom of the inning and moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt before scoring on a wild pitch for the 9-2 lead.
Methodist loaded the bases in the eighth and finished the game with five runs on four hits to earn the 14-2 win.
Quick led the Monarchs at the plate hitting 3-for-5 with three RBI. Four Monarchs had two hits a piece.
Kurt Kelly went the distance on the mound earning his seventh win of the season scattering five hits with six strikeouts in eight innings.
The Monarchs advance to face third seeded Shenandoah on Friday at 10 a.m.
