BURLINGTON, N.C. - No. 2 Methodist took the early 1-0 lead over No. 3 Shenandoah, but the Hornets came back with a 17-4 win over the Monarchs.
Trey Such singled in the first inning to score
Shawn Lovette for the first run of the game. The Hornets came back to take the lead with three runs in the second.
Tyler Younger led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run, but Shenandoah took over with five runs in the third.
The Monarchs added a run in the third with back-to-back hits from Lovette and
Brian Inghram, but the Hornets went on to build a 14-3 lead. Lovette hit a RBI single in the seventh before the Hornets finished with three runs in the top of the ninth to win 17-4.
Lovette led the Monarchs hitting 3-for-4 at the plate. Inghram and
Brian Halpin added two hits a piece.
Methodist used multiple pitchers with
Sean Willingham taking the loss.
The Monarchs will face Averett at 5 p.m.
