BURLINGTON, N.C. -- In game four of the 2010 USA South Conference Softball Tournament, the third seeded Monarchs of Methodist University downed sixth seeded Shenandoah by a 2-1 score in nine innings.  MU's Jody Eyler provided the late-inning heroics with a game-winning double to left that plated Katie Byrd.

The two teams had gone into extras with the score knotted at 1-1 thanks to a bases-load walk to the Monarchs' Jordan Adams in the second inning.  Shenandoah later got an RBI-single from Cat Pruiett to pull the teams even in the fifth.  SU looked to pull off the victory in the eighth, but Methodist left fielder Darci Martin gunned down Ashley Plaugher at the plate to preserve the tie and eventual win.

Lysuelle Slaughter picked up the win in relief, tossing four scoreless innings and scattering just three hits.  Brooke Over took the loss for Shenandoah, allowing two runs on ten hits and striking out eight.

The Monarchs will now face the winner of #2 Greensboro/#7 Peace on Saturday at noon.  Shenandoah will be back in action later this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. versus 9th-seeded Averett in an elimination game.
