BURLINGTON, N.C. - Second seeded Greensboro College dealt the Monarchs their first loss in the USA South Softball Tournament with a 7-1 score before Ferrum eliminated Methodist with a 6-5 win.
The Pride scored single runs in the first, second, third, and fourth innings to earn an early 4-0 advantage.
Methodist got on board in the bottom of the fourth with the help of two GC errors. Darci Martin doubled to left and advanced to third with the next at-bat. Crystal Metzger notched an RBI-single for the Monarch's first and only run of the game.
Greensboro finished with the 7-1 victory. Methodist's Alex Winters finished 2-for-3 while Jordan Adams was 2-for-4.
Ferrum College avoided elimination by scoring a 6-5 come-from-behind win over the Monarchs in the second game.
The Monarchs were the beneficiary of four unearned runs in a five-run second inning that gave them an early advantage. Jordan Adams and Cortney Kerns each had a pair of RBIs, with Kerns' coming on a two-run triple to left-center.
Ferrum managed two runs in the sixth on RBIs by Rachel Shumaker and Meagan Farrell before completing the comeback with a four-spot in the seventh. Shelbie Hall delivered the game-winning RBI with a fielder's choice to shortstop that plated Shumaker.
FC'S Kaitlyn Culler (14-5) picked up the victory in the circle, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings in relief. MU's Emily Beck (2-6) earned the loss on the mound after starting the game and re-entering in the seventh. She tossing 4.2 innings and allowing two runs on four hits.
