BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team advanced to the USA South Tournament Championship on Saturday with a 7-2 semifinal win over N.C. Wesleyan College.
The Monarchs took a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Katherine Meindl won 9-8 (7-4) at number one and
Heather Brayton and
Jennifer Hamel won 8-4 at number three doubles. N.C. Wesleyan took the number two match over
Dana Powell and
Rachel Purser with a 9-8 (7-1) score.
Meindl took the 6-4, 6-0 win at number two singles and Brayton won 6-4, 6-4 at number four. Powell won 6-1, 6-2 at number five.
Kaitlin Flaherty fought back from a first set loss to win 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Purser won 6-3, 6-7 (9-11), 10-4. Hamel won her first set but lost 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
With the win, the Monarchs will face Meredith on Sunday at 10 a.m.
