NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Nine Methodist track and field student-athletes traveled to Christopher Newport University this weekend for the Blue & Silver Challenge.
Ruby Blackwell won the 100 meter and 400 meter races after finishing the 100 meters in 12.61 seconds and the 400 meters in 58.27 seconds.
Ashlynn Chavis finished second in the 100 in 12.87 seconds and won the long jump with a leap of 5.57, another NCAA provisional-qualifying distance.
Brianna Robinson placed seventh in the 100 meters in 13.66 seconds and finished third in the triple jump clearing 10.76 meters.
Kate Ramsay was 11th in the 100 meters (14.23 seconds) and 13th in the 200 meters (29.60 seconds).
On the men's side
Stefan Johnson finished second in the 100 in 11.06 seconds and won the 200 meters in 21.77 seconds.
Pierson Singleton placed seventh in the 100 (11.45), eighth in the 200 (22.96) and ninth in the long jump (6.11).
Petros Bein was 10th in the 200 meters in 23.02 seconds while placing fourth in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.64 seconds. Rounding out the men's team,
Aaron Holmes won the 400 meter hurdles in 57.60 seconds and
Chauncey Edwards finished sixth in the triple jump in 12.44 seconds.
The Monarchs are scheduled to compete at the USC Upstate Invitational next Saturday.
