FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist dealt Ferrum their first two USA South losses while claiming 10-2 and 3-2 victories.
The Monarchs started things off in the first inning with a triple from
Cortney Kerns.
Katie Byrd singled to score Kerns and
Jody Eyler singled to score Byrd for the 2-0 lead.
Methodist added a run in the third with a RBI double from
Darci Martin before opening it up with four runs in the fourth on four hits for the 7-0 advantage. Ferrum scored a run in the fifth and sixth, but the Monarchs finished with three runs in the sixth to win 10-2.
Emily Beck pitched the first three scoreless innings without giving up a hit.
Heather Anderson pitched two innings of relief and
Lysuelle Slaughter finished with two strikeouts in the final inning.
Byrd and Eyler went 3-for-4 while Kerns went 2-for-2 in the game.
Ferrum took the early lead of game two after loading the bases and scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning. The Panthers added a run in the second with two hits to move ahead 2-0.
THe Monarchs rallied in the sixth when
Jordan Adams reached second on an error.
Cortney Kerns laid down the perfect bunt single to move Adams to third and
Katie Byrd advanced the runners with a single to center.
Darci Martin tied the game with a sacrifice fly and
Jody Eyler blooped a single to left center for Byrd to score the game-winning run.
Alex Bass pitched the first three innings before Slaughter came on to get the win with 4.0 innings pitched.
Byrd and Eyler finished 2-for-3 with a RBI a piece.
The Monarchs will host Peace on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
