GREENSBORO, N.C. - Methodist took the early 4-0 lead and held on for the 4-3 win to finish with a sweep over Greensboro College.
The Monarchs scored first in the second inning when
Brian Goodwin and
Tyler Younger had back-to-back singles before
Ryan Stack singled to score Goodwin. In the third inning
Trey Such and
Brian Halpin reached on singles and Goodwin tripled to score both runners and move ahead 3-0.
Brian Inghram led off the fifth with a solo shot over the fence in right to give Methodist the four run lead. The Pride came back and scored two runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh to cut the lead to one, but the Monarchs held them off for the 4-3 win.
Kurt Kelly gave up seven hits in 6.2 innings of work to earn the win. Tre' Britt and
Rusty White entered in relief with White earning his fourth save of the season.
The Monarchs had four different players pick up two hits a piece with Goodwin leading with a 2-for-4 performance along with two RBI.
Methodist will take the road this week to play at Guilford Tuesday and at Lynchburg on Wednesday.
