FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist softball program made history with the first doubleheader under the lights Tuesday night. The Monarchs swept the Peace Pacers with 4-2 and 11-3 victories.

Methodist capitalized on a Peace error in the second inning to take the 2-0 lead. Another unearned run in the third gave the Monarchs the 3-0 lead. The Pacers got on the board in the fifth scoring on a wild pitch before cutting the lead to one in the sixth with back-to-back doubles but Methodist added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the 4-2 win.

Alex Bass pitched five innings with three strikeouts to earn the win while Lysuelle Slaughter finished in relief to pick up her fourth save of the season.

Katie Byrd was 2-for-3 with a RBI to lead the Monarchs while Crystal Metzger and Jordan Adams were 1-for-2.

Peace went ahead 3-0 after the first inning and a half of game two, but Methodist came back with five runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Byrd hit a double with bases loaded to top off the inning. The Monarchs added four runs in the third with five hits before going ahead 10-3 in the fourth on a single from Metzger.

The Peace defense held the Monarchs scoreless in the fifth, but Methodist came back to score the game-winning run in the sixth when Katie Scheller singled up the middle to score Raevin Harvey.

Heather Anderson gave up four hits in two innings of work before Emily Beck came on in relief and pitched four hitless innings for the win.

Cortney Kerns and Scheller were 3-for-4 while Metzger went 2-for-2.

The Monarchs will travel to Mary Baldwin on Friday for a 2:30 p.m. start.
