FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team finished the regular season with an 18-6 loss to York (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the game, the Monarchs recognized seniors
Brian Goodwin,
Brian Halpin,
Landon Jordan and
Kurt Kelly for their outstanding careers.
York started the game with a two-out rally in the first to give them a 4-0 lead. Methodist battled back in the second to score two runs on a sacrifice fly by
Xavier Mayo and a RBI single by
Tripp Lancaster. The Spartans went ahead 6-0 in the fourth, but the Monarchs responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning backed by a two-RBI triple by Lancaster.
York scored five runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to build a 12-5 lead. Methodist added a run in the bottom of the sixth but left seven runners stranded in the final four innings while the Spartans finished up with the 18-6 win.
Lancaster was a home run short of hitting for the cycle finishing up 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI.
Tyler Younger and
Matt Quick went 3-for-5.
Landon Jordan pitched 4.1 innings to take the loss.
Hunter Ennis,
Rusty White and
David Christoffersen finished in relief.
The Monarchs will welcome back their alumni next Saturday for a game at 1 p.m.
