Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's soccer team dominated Chowan University on Wednesday afternoon and finished with the 2-0 shutout.

Methodist freshman Clayton Newton had his third shot of the day blocked by Chowan goalkeeper Scott Cullen but followed the rebound with a goal to give the Monarchs the 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.

Just before halftime Newton had another chance inside the 18-yard box and finished it to the lower right corner of the goal for his second of the game.

The Monarchs out shot the Hawks 24-8 while Cullen finished with 11 saves. Methodist goalkeepers Kyle Beach and Patrick Hamel combined with two saves for the shutout.

Methodist will be back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Emory University.
