Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Methodist University scored one goal in each half Saturday morning to down Shenandoah University 2-0 in USA South Conference men's soccer action.
Kristoffe Govasmark scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for Methodist (6-1-2, 1-0 USA South) in the first half before Eirik Nordseth tallied on a penalty kick in the second.
Govasmark ripped the game-winner from just outside the 18-yard box, one-timing an Eric McGinnis volley past SU keeper James Dutcher.
Nordseth converted the PK in the 60th minute after Shenandoah (1-7-1, 0-1) was called for a foul at the edge of the box. Nordseth beat Dutcher with a low shot into the left side of the goal.
MU, the No. 10 team in the South, outshot the Hornets 8-2 and had four of the game's five corner kicks.
Dutcher had two saves for the hosts. Patrick Hamel had one stop for the Monarchs.
Methodist will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Marymount.
