Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's soccer team took the early lead, but Roanoke came from behind to win 2-1 in overtime.

Methodist's Eric McGinnis scored the first goal of the game with just 23 seconds left in the first half as he blasted a shot to the upper right corner of the goal. Roanoke came back and put the Monarchs on their heels in the second half and evened the score with a header off of a free kick in the 75th minute.

With the game still tied at the end of regulation, the two teams set up for overtime and just 12 seconds after kickoff, Roanoke capitalized on a defensive miscue to slip in the game-winning goal to the far post from the right side.

Methodist's Kyle Beach played the first 83 minutes before Patrick Hamel finished in goal with one save. Avery Makel had five stops for Roanoke.

Both teams were regionally ranked coming into the game with Roanoke at No. 4 and the Monarchs earning the No. 8 spot. Methodist will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Averett University at 3:30 p.m.
