FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist and Huntingdon battled for 10 innings of baseball on Saturday, but it was the Hawks who edged the Monarchs 1-0 for the win.

While scoreless through nine innings, both teams had opportunities to score. Trey Such led off the second with a single and after a sacrifice bunt from Brian Inghram and a single by Brandon Thigpen, Methodist had runners on first and third before Huntingdon turned the double play to finish the inning.

Huntingdon had runners on first and third in the sixth inning, but Methodist pitcher Tre' Britt picked up the strikeout to keep the game scoreless. The Hawks' Caleb Astin led off the ninth with a single and moved to second on a groundout. Chad Baxley reached on a catcher's interference and Keegan Lambeth looked to have the game-winning hit, but Methodist's Tyler Younger had a leaping catch and tag for a double play to end the ninth.

Methodist came up empty in the bottom of the inning sending the game to extra innings. Stephen Bishop reached on an error and Drew Harrell walked before Drew Harrell loaded the bases with a single. Austin White hit a sacrifice fly to score Bishop for what would be the game-winning run.

The Monarchs tried to rally in the bottom of the inning after a lead-off single from Kyle Williams and Tripp Lancaster reached on an error, but Huntingdon retired the next two batters to secure the 1-0 win.

Thigpen led the Monarchs offensively with two hits while Britt finished eight scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Rusty White finished in relief taking the loss with just one unearned run.
