ATLANTA, Ga. - The Methodist women's tennis team won two solid matches on Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. with a 6-3 win over Oglethorpe and a 9-0 sweep over Covenant.
The Monarchs led 2-1 after doubles against Oglethorpe.
Rachel Purser and
Dana Powell won 8-6 at number one and
Laura Baker and
Stacey Brooks won 8-2 at number two.
Kelli Shelton and
Jessica Broadwell lost 5-8 at number three.
Kaitlin Flaherty won 6-0, 6-2 at number one singles and
Katherine Meindl won 6-0, 6-0 at number two. Shelton won 6-2, 6-1 at number four and
Adrinne Beaver won 6-3, 6-4 at number five. Baker lost in a tiebreaker 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 at number three and
Hillary Petruska lost 6-3, 6-3 at number six.
Methodist dominated Covenant earning the sweep. Flaherty and Meindl won 8-0 at number one doubles and Purser and Powell won 8-3 at number two.
Lauryn Justice and Broadwell took the 8-3 win at number three.
The Monarchs maintained control with six straight singles victories. Flaherty won 6-2, 6-1 and Meindl won 6-1, 6-1 at one and two singles. Purser won 6-0, 6-1 at number three and Baker won 6-0, 6-0 at number four. Powell took the 6-1, 6-0 win at number five and Brooks won 6-3, 6-4 at number six.
Methodist will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Agnes Scott College at noon.
