FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Frostburg State jumped out to an early lead and the Methodist baseball team couldn't catch up as the Bobcats took the 8-5 win.
Frostburg loaded the bases in the first and a double to right field cleared the bases for the 3-0 lead. Methodist came back and cut the lead to two after
Sergio Davis reached on an error and scored on
Shawn Lovette's groundout.
The Bobcats added a run in the second, but the Monarchs rallied for two runs in the third after
Brian Inghram hit a two-RBI triple to center field. Frostburg scored an unearned run in the sixth to lead 5-3 before increasing their lead to five runs with a three runs in the eighth.
The Monarchs looked to counter in the ninth when
Dustin Hunt drew a lead-off walk.
Corey Sykes pinch ran for Hunt and scored on
Chris Perry's triple to the fence in center.
Tyler Younger had a groundout to score Perry and move within three runs, but Frostburg pitcher Zach O'Dell struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Perry hit 2-for-4 for the Monarchs while
Trey Such and Inghram added the other two hits.
Michael Judge took the loss for Methodist pitching six innings with five strikeouts with seven hits.
Brett Bially,
Josh Ayers and
Rett Lee finished in relief.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Hampden-Sydney at 4 p.m.
