DECATUR, Ga. - The Methodist women's tennis team finished the weekend with their third straight win with a 7-2 victory over Agnes Scott College.
The Monarchs faced off against the Scotties in a rematch from the NCAA Tournament match-up nine months ago. Methodist won 5-3 last season and picked up where they left off with a 7-2 win on Sunday.
Methodist's
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Katherine Meindl won 8-6 at number one doubles and
Laura Baker and
Stacey Brooks won 8-2 at number three. Agnes Scott took the second doubles match 8-4 over
Dana Powell and
Rachel Purser.
Flaherty lost 1-6, 5-7 in the first singles match, but the Monarchs picked up wins in the remaining matches to secure the win. Meindl won 6-4, 6-2 at number two and Purser won 6-3, 6-3 at number three. Baker won 6-1, 6-4 at number four and Powell won 7-6 (3), 3-6, 10-7 at number five.
Kelli Shelton finished it off with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they host Fayetteville State and Guilford in their first home matches of the season.
