FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist scored first and never looked back as they cruised to the 8-1 win over LaGrange College on Saturday.
Methodist started things off in the second inning after
Chris Perry drew the walk,
Tyler Younger singled and
Dustin Brown hit a double to left field to score Perry.
Tripp Lancaster followed up with a single to score Younger and give Methodist the 2-0 lead.
LaGrange took advantage of a walk and stolen base to place a runner in scoring position in the third before scoring on a single, but the Monarchs came right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning for the 4-1 lead.
Sergio Davis and Perry both had hits in the inning to boost the Methodist offense.
The Monarchs scored two unearned runs in the fifth and tacked one on in the sixth before
Trey Such capped off the day with a solo shot to right field for the 8-1 win.
Such and
Shawn Lovette both finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Tre' Britt took the win on the mound pitching seven innings giving up just three hits with nine strikeouts.
Rett Lee and
Brett Bially finished in relief.
The Monarchs will be back for the second game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
