Monarchs Earn 9-1 Win Over Marlins

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team used a seven-run seventh inning to cruise to the 9-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday.

After three scoreless innings, Brandon Thigpen sparked a two-out rally in the fourth with a double to right center. Brian Inghram followed up with a home run to left center to give Methodist the 2-0 lead.

The Monarchs pounded out five hits in the seventh inning to go along with six walks for seven runs in the seventh inning. The Marlins snuck in a run in the top of the ninth on three hits, but Methodist finished with the 9-1 win.

Thigpen finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and Inghram went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Sergio Davis finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Michael Judge pitched seven scoreless innings with three strikeouts for the win. Rett Lee and Jaron Cayton finished in relief.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Arcadia at 4 p.m.
