LYNCHBURG, Va. - After three scoreless innings, the Methodist baseball broke open the floodgates to rattle off 12 runs and hold the shutout for the 12-0 victory.
The Monarchs got on the board in the fourth when
Trey Such singled and scored on a double by
Tyler Younger.
Dustin Brown kept things going in the fifth with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by
Tripp Lancaster. Brown went on to score on a wild pitch. MU showcased smart base running and combined with hits from
Brian Inghram and
Brandon Thigpen, the Monarchs took a 5-0 lead after five innings.
Sergio Davis and
Shawn Lovette had RBI in the sixth inning before Methodist rattled off five runs in the ninth inning thanks in part to a two-RBI single by Brown. The Monarchs finished with the 12-0 win.
Brown finished 3-for-5 at the plate while Lancaster,
Sergio Davis, Inghram and Such had two hits apiece.
Michael Judge pitched six scoreless innings to earn the win scattering three hits with three strikeouts.
Rett Lee and
Josh Ayers finished in relief to combine for the shutout.
The Monarchs will open USA South action on Saturday at Christopher Newport.
