FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist softball team earned a conference sweep over Meredith with 10-2 and 9-1 victories.
The Monarchs opened the game with two runs in the first on a two-RBI double from
Jody Eyler. Methodist added three runs in the second after taking advantage of two Meredith errors and three walks.
Kimber Hall drew a bases loaded walk in the third to give Methodist the 6-0 lead.
The Monarchs loaded the bases again in the fourth and
Jordan Adams drew the walk to score
Marcy McKee. Hall followed up with a double to clear the bases and give Methodist the 10-0 advantage. Meredith rallied for two runs in the fifth, but the Monarchs held on for the 10-2 win.
Hall finished 1-for-2 with four RBI and Eyler went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Candace Piner pitched the complete game with four strikeouts for the win.
The Angels struck first with an unearned run in the first, but Methodist tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a RBI double by
Darci Martin. Methodist added two runs in the second with a two-out rally and tacked on another run in the third inning.
Meredith had bases loaded in both the third and the fifth after an intentional walk, but Methodist pitcher
Alex Bass came through with the clutch strikeout to get the Monarchs out of the inning. The Monarchs loaded the bases again in the sixth and
Darci Martin singled up the middle to score
Katie Byrd.
Jody Eyler gave Methodist the 6-0 lead with another bases loaded single, but it was Bass who came up with the booming triple down the right field line to secure the 9-1 victory.
Martin was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI while Adams, Bass and
Katie Scheller went 1-for-2.
Bass pitched the complete game with six strikeouts scattering six hits.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Ferrum for a USA South doubleheader.
