Monarchs Rally for 7-6 Win

Brian Inghram hit a three-run home run for the win

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist had the lead and saw it slip away, but Brian Inghram's three-run home run boosted the Monarchs past Greensboro for the 7-6 win.

Methodist started things off with two runs in the first after Sergio Davis drew the walk and Brandon Thigpen singled and advanced to third on a defensive error. Davis scored on the play and Thigpen scored on Brian Inghram's sacrifice.

The Pride got on the board in the third putting together three hits to score one run. They went on to take the lead in the fourth with three runs before building a 6-2 advantage with two runs in the fifth.

The Monarchs chipped away at the lead and scored two runs in the fifth. Inghram doubled and scored on a single by Shawn Lovette. Matt Quick hit a single up the middle and Lovette stole third. With runners on first and third Quick stole second allowing Lovette to score on the play.

With two outs in the sixth, Thigpen and Trey Such drew walks to set up the three-run home run by Inghram for the Monarchs to take the 7-6 lead. Greensboro loaded the bases in the seventh, but Michael Judge came on in relief to get the crucial strikeout. The Monarchs held the Pride for the final two innings to secure the 7-6 win.

Inghram finished 2-for-4 with four RBI. Thigpen also went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Brett Bially pitched two innings to get the win in relief. Rusty White pitched the final inning for his fourth save of the year.

With the win, Methodist clinched the No. 3 seed in the USA South Tournament. The Monarchs will face the sixth seed on Thursday at 1 p.m.
