BURLINGTON, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan came from behind to upend Methodist 9-7 in the team's second game of the USA South Tournament.
Methodist got on the board early in game with a two run first inning and added a run in the seocnd when
Rebecca Harlan walked and moved around before scoring on a wild pitch. The Bishops came back with three runs in the second inning to tie the game 3-3.
Alex Winters drew the lead-off walk in the fourth before the Monarchs put together three doubles from
Katie Byrd,
Kimber Hall and
Marcy McKee to take the 6-3 advantage. N.C. Wesleyan came back and rattled off five hits in the fifth to tie the game at six. Methodist took a 7-6 lead in the sixth on an unearned run, but the Bishops used three runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the 9-7 win.
Methodist had two hits from seniors
Alex Bass and
Darci Martin in the top of the seventh, but N.C. Wesleyan recovered for the next three outs to hold on for the victory.
McKee finished 3-for-4 at hte plate with two RBI while Byrd went 2-for-3 and Bass was 2-for-4.
Candace Piner pitched 4.1 innings and
Alex Bass finished with 1.2 to take the loss.
Methodist finishes the season at 21-19.
