BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis rolled through the first round of the USA South Tournament with a 9-0 win over No. 8 Mary Baldwin.
Twelve different players contributed to the Monarchs shutout victory on Friday. Methodist took the quick 3-0 lead with three 8-0 wins in doubles.
Dana Powell and
Rachel Purser won at number one and
Laura Baker and
Stacey Brooks won at number two.
Lauryn Justice and
Jessica Broadwell finished with the victory at number three.
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Katherine Meindl both won 6-0, 6-0 at number one and two singles respectively.
Kelli Shelton won 6-1, 6-0 at number three while
Adrinne Beaver won 8-0 at number four.
Hillary Petruska and
Lindsie Bentham both won 8-0 at number five and six singles.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday against No. 4 N.C. Wesleyan College. Due to possible poor weather conditions on Saturday, the tournament has been moved indoors to the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Complex (
www.piedmontindoor.com) in Greensboro, North Carolina. The match time of both semifinal contests will be moved up one hour to 1:00 p.m. Weather permitting, the finals are still set to be played at the Burlington Tennis Center at 10:00 am on Sunday.
