Monarchs Upend Ferrum Twice in Extra Innings

FERRUM, Va. - Methodist overcame Ferrum twice in extra innings on Saturday with scores of 4-3 and 3-2. 

In the first game of the day, Methodist took the 2-0 lead with a run in the first inning and a second run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Kimber Hall. The Panthers rallied to tie the game with two runs in the sixth inning and send the game to extra innings. Darci Martin hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to score Jordan Adams in the eighth, but Ferrum rallied to tie the game at three in the bottom of the eighth. Neither team tallied a run in the ninth, but Methodist took the 4-3 lead in the 10th with another RBI from Martin.

Martin finished 2-for-4 with two RBI in the game while Jody Eyler went 2-for-5 with a RBI. Candace Piner pitched five innings with three strikeouts while Alex Bass finished in relief with five innings and five strikeouts for the win.

Ferrum scored first in game two, but Methodist tied the game at one in the third inning on a RBI single from Hall to score Katie Byrd. Hall drew the walk in the fifth and scored on a double from Eyler to give Methodist the 2-1 lead. Ferrum came from behind once again and sent the game to extra innings with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Saraha Young pinch ran in the top of the eighth and moved to third on a passed ball before scoring on a single from Marcy McKee for what would be the game-winning run.

Hall and Martin finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Bass pitched the complete game scattering six hits with seven strikeouts.

Methodist will be back in action on Tuesday at Peace College beginning at 3 p.m.
