WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team defended their No. 9 regional ranking on Sunday with an 8-1 win over No. 12 Huntingdon College.
The Monarchs opened the match with a 3-0 win after doubles.
Kaitlin Flaherty and
Katherine Meindl won 8-3 at number one and
Rachel Purser and
Dana Powell won 8-3 at number two.
Laura Baker and
Stacey Brooks took the 8-5 win at number three.
Kaitlin Flaherty dropped the number one singles match to regionally ranked Katie Scott 6-1, 6-1, but Methodist finished with the remaining singles matches to earn the 8-1 win. Meindl won 6-1, 6-2 at number two and Purser won 7-6 (2), 6-0 at number three. Baker won 6-0, 6-0 at number four and Powell won 6-3, 6-1 at number five. Shelton finishd up with the 6-1, 6-3 win at number six.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Wednesday when they host N.C. Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
