Methodist Softball Sweeps Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist softball team kept their winning streak going on Tuesday with two wins over Peace 9-2 and 7-0. 

The Monarchs opened the scoring with four runs in the first after putting together three hits and capitalizing on a Peace error. The Pacers got on the board in the bottom of the inning with an unearned run, but Methodist put together four more runs in the third inning. Darci Martin hit a RBI double while Rachel Chapman, Candace Piner and Katie Byrd added RBI in the inning. Peace added a run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles, but the Monarchs added an insurance run in the sixth to win 9-2.

Jordan Adams was 2-for-3 at the plate and Martin finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Candace Piner pitched the complete game scattering seven hits with four strikeouts.

After a scoreless first inning in game two, Martin started things off in the second with a home run. Alex Bass kept the rally going with a single and scored on a single from Marcy McKee to take the 2-0 lead. Adams singled in the third and Kimber Hall drove her in with the Monarchs' second home run of the game. The Methodist bats kept connecting as Martin singled and scored on a double by Jody Eyler. The Monarchs added two runs in the fifth with RBI from Martin and Eyler to finish with the 7-0 win.

Martin was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and Hall went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Alex Bass pitched the complete game giving up just three hits with eight strikeouts.

The Monarchs will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan in a rescheduled doubleheader to start at 3 p.m.
