FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist earned the sweep over Mary Baldwin College on Friday. The Monarchs won 11-3 and 8-0, both in five innings.
The Monarchs took the early lead after
Darci Martin hit a bases loaded triple down the left field line.
Jody Eyler followed up with a sacrifice fly to give Methodist the 4-0 lead. The Squirrels came back with an unearned run in the top of the second, but Methodist came back with four more runs in the bottom of the inning. Mary Baldwin scored two runs in the third inning before Methodist went ahead 9-3 in the third.
Darci Martin led off the fourth with a single and went onto score before
Katie Byrd ended the game in the fifth with a home run over the fence in right field.
Martin finished 3-for-3 with four RBI.
Jordan Adams went 2-for-2 while Byrd and
Marcy McKee went 2-for-3.
Alex Bass pitched the complete game victory with eight strikeouts giving up just three hits.
Methodist picked up where they left off in game two and scored three runs in the first inning thanks in part to a two-RBI double from Eyler. Methodist added a run in the second with an inside the park home run by Byrd.
Chelsie Keene hit a sacrifice fly in the third to score Martin before the Monarchs added three runs on just two hits in the fourth to move ahead 8-0. Keene struck out the first two batters and
Megan Ondrey caught the fly ball in right field to record the final out and preserve the shutout.
Seven different batters each recorded a hit for the Monarchs. Eyler was 1-for-2 with three RBI. Keene pitched the complete game shutout giving up just one hit and earning five strikeouts.
The Monarchs will finish the regular season on Saturday when they host Shenandoah at noon.
