FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist took the early lead and never trailed as they finished with the 6-2 win over Greensboro College.
Tripp Lancaster started things off in the bottom of the first with home run over the fence in right field on the first pitch. The Monarchs added a run in the second after
Brian Inghram drew the lead-off walk. He advanced to second on
Matt Quick's walk and scored on
Dustin Brown's single.
The Pride got on the board with a run in the fourth, but Methodist added three runs in the sixth capitalizing on three walks and an error on top of
Shawn Lovette's bunt single. The Monarchs added an insurance run in the eighth thanks in part to another two walks and a hit by pitch.
Greensboro squeaked in a run in the top of the ninth, but Methodist finished with the 6-2 win.
Lovette and Brown went 1-for-3 with a RBI a piece.
Tyler Younger had two RBI for the Monarchs.
Tre' Britt pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts giving up just three hits.
Josh Ayers finished in relief with two strikeouts in two innings.
Methodist will be back to host Greensboro on Sunday at 2 p.m.
