Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - It was a weekend of battles for the Methodist women's soccer team. After dropping a 2-1 overtime game to Berry on Friday, the Monarchs turned the tables on Sewanee and won 2-1 in the final minutes of Sunday's finale.

Sewanee dominated possession in the first half out shooting Methodist 8-1, but it was the Monarchs who struck first with a goal from Danielle Minichello in the 38th minute. Minichello beat the defense and slipped one by Sewanee goalkeeper Virginia Zakas for the 1-0 lead. Sewanee came right back with the game-tying goal just a minute and two seconds later with a header inside the six-yard box.

The two teams were tied going into half and neither team could find the back of the net early in the second half. Lisa Paschal had a close chance on one end and Sewanee broke free for five shots on goal in the second half. The Monarchs earned a free kick 40 yards from goal with just three minutes on the clock and Marissa Kuzbyt drove the ball towards goal. Zakas got her fingers off of it to hit the crossbar and Methodist's Kristin Habig was there to bury the rebound in the back of the net.

Methodist's Sara Atlman and Sarah Hayden combined in goal with five saves apiece. Zakas finished with three saves for Sewanee.

The Monarchs will be back in action next Saturday when they open USA South Conference action by hosting Meredith at 2 p.m.
