Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's soccer team finished the weekend with a solid 3-1 win over Lynchburg College Sunday afternoon.
Methodist struck first when
Clayton Newton drove a ball from the right side into
Eirik Nordseth to finish to the right post in the 18th minute of play. Less than two minutes later,
Chris Ryan gave the ball up to Newton for a 30-yard blast to the upper 90 and the Monarchs' 2-0 lead. Lynchburg was dealt a red card in the 34th minute forcing them to play a player down for more than half of the game.
The Hornets got on the board when Devin Jones scored on a header from a free kick in the 68th minute, but Methodist countered in the 77th minute with another Nordseth goal after he finished a deflection from
Eric McGinnis' initial shot. The Monarchs finished with the 3-1 regional victory.
The Monarchs will be back in action Sept. 21 when they travel to Chowan University for a 4 p.m. start.
