Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist men's soccer team continued its high-scoring ways with a 6-1 win over visiting LaGrange on Saturday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
The Monarchs have now scored 16 goals over their last three games, outscoring the opposition 16-2 over that span. On Saturday, five different players found the back of the net, and Methodist had the game put away early with four first-half tallies.
MU began the scoring barrage at the 14:49 mark when
Eirik Nordseth scored off an assist from
Anders Petersen in the 15
th minute. Just under three minutes later, Methodist extended its lead to 2-0 as
Eric McGinnis scored off a deflection at the 18:34 mark.
Mike Ilodigwe added two goals before halftime, the first one off an assist from McGinnis at 24:26, and then an unassisted goal in the 40
th minute as MU took a 4-0 lead into intermission.
In the second half, Ilodigwe found
Jacob Tello for a goal, and a 5-0 lead, at the 74:23 mark and roughlty three minutes later, the Monarchs'
Nahom Hargwoin scored off an assist from
Chris Ryan for a 6-0 advantage.
The Panther finally got on the board with under five minutes to play in the game, as Kevin Folsom scored unassisted.
Pat Hamel made three saves in goal for the Monarchs in playing all 90:00. Donnie Palmer and Nelson Zavala split time in goal for LaGrange, as Palmer allowed four goals and Nelson Zavala ceded a pair.
The Monarchs next play Sunday, tomorrow, when they host Piedmont at 4:00 pm.
