Eric McGinnis scored in the 86th minute and for the fourth time in the last five games the Methodist men's soccer team held its opponent scoreless in producing a 1-0 win over Maryville on Sunday afternoon at the MC Soccer Field.
McGinnis' goal at the 85:31 mark, his 15th of the season, broke a 0-0 tie and lifted the Monarchs to 12-2-2 on the season and 4-1-2 in the USA South. His goal came off a corner kick and was assisted by
Ben Gold.
Methodist held a slim 5-3 edge in shots for the game, and Pat Hamel was not forced into making a save as he notched his fourth shutout of the season and his third in a row for the Monarchs. Ben Munger faced three shots for the Scots, stopping two of them as Maryville fell to 4-10-2 on the season and 2-4-1 in the USA South.
The Monarchs will wrap up regular season play with a pivotal game at N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 pm.
