Box Score ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- The Methodist men's soccer team secured a home game in the upcoming USA South Tournament and earned the tournament's No. 3 seed with a 2-1 win at N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday.
With the win, the Monarchs concluded the regular season with an overall record of 13-2-2 and a league mark of 5-1-2, while the Bishops finished at 9-3-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the USA South.
Eirik Nordseth put the Monarchs up 1-0 in the 34th minute as he converted a free kick from 35 yards out that found its way past NCWC's Nathan Mangione.
It took the Battling Bishops less than two minutes to tie the contest at 1-1 in the second half as Christian Boakye scored off a feed from Leifur Kristjansson just 1:21 into the second period. In the 60th minute, MU's
Chris Ryan scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal when he scored unassisted at 59:04.
The Monarchs, who allowed just their second goal in their last six matches, outshot NCWC, 16-11, and boasted an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. Pat Hamel made three saves in goal for Methoidist and Mangione had three as well for the Battling Bishops.
With the win and the No.3 seed, Methodist knows that it will host a USA South Quarterfinal game on Saturday at 2:30, but the opponent has yet to be officially released by the conference.
