NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Methodist volleyball teams split a pair of matches at Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs defeated LaGrange, 3-2, and fell to CNU, 3-0.
MU knocked off LaGrange, 25-17, 25-10, 23-25, 24-26, 15-10, to open the day.
Hayley Williams led the Monarchs with 17 kills and was one of five players with 10 or more kills.
Risa Smith added 13 kills and
Brittany McCoy,
Stephanie Wood and
Allison Graves added 10 kills apiece.
Kendra Krupp ran the offense with 51 assists.
Defensively,
Karly Klimas led the Monarchs with 28 digs, Graves added 14 digs,
Ryanne Greer 13 and Smith chipped in 10.
The Captains defeated the Monarchs, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.
Smith led the Monarchs with nine kills in the match, but MU hit just -.022 as a team. Wood added six kills. Defensively Graves led the team with 12 digs and Klimas and Greer chipped in eight apiece, while Krupp had 17 assists.
The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Meredith for a 7:00 pm contest.
