Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Junior forward Eirik Nordseth notched a hat trick and added two assists as the Methodist men's soccer team rolled over visiting Marymount University, 6-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.

The Monarchs, who improved to 6-1 at home and 9-2-1 on the season, wasted no time jumping on the Saints (3-7-2) as junior Eric McGinnis set up Nordseth for the first of his three goals just 1:12 into the contest. At the 21:21 mark, the duo connected once again as Nordseth tallied his second marker for a 2-0 lead.

Just over six minutes later, Nordseth picked up the first of his assists when he found freshman Mike Ilodigwe, who had entered the match about a minute earlier, for a 3-0 lead at the 27:35 mark. Nordseth then completed his hat trick five minutes later when freshman Anders Petersen set him up at the 32:29 mark as the Monarchs increased their lead to 4-0.

Petersen capped the first-half scoring, taking a pass from Nordseth and beating Marymount's Mike Madigan for a 5-0 lead, at the 42:09 mark.

In the second half, McGinnis, the team's leading scorer, got into the action when he converted a penalty kick after being taken down in the box by Madigan at the 53:31 mark for the game's final goal.

The eight points scored by Nordseth marked a new career high, eclipsing his previous best of six which he had accomplished twice before, and McGinnis' two assists tied his career best.

Methodist outshot Marymount, 14-8, and held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Senior Pat Hamel started in goal and played the first 72:05 in net, making four saves, before giving way to sophomore Jeff Wright, who played the final 17:55 and made one save as MU recorded its second shutout of the season, and first since a season-opening win over Wooster (4-0).

Madigan played the opening 75:18 in goal for the Saints, and made three saves while yielding all six goals. Alexander Cortez played the final 14:42 in net and did not make a save.

The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when they play host to LaGrange at 12:00 pm.
