Box Score MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- The third-seeded Methodist men's soccer team put an end to fifth-seeded Greensboro's Cinderella run through the USA South Tournament, defeating the Pride 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to capture the program's first conference championship since the 1996 season.

With the conference title win, the Monarchs (15-2-3) have clinched the USA South's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and will learn their first round site and opponent on Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm.

Sophomore forward Eirik Nordseth, who was a First Team All-USA South selection earlier in the week, scored the game's lone goal in the 27th minute off an assist from freshman forward Anders Petersen as MU outshot Greensboro, 8-1, in the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, Greensboro (11-5-4) upped its offensive aggressiveness, recording six shots to the Monarchs' eight, but senior goalkeeper Pat Hamel made two of his three saves in the second half to record his sixth shutout of the season and the team's seventh overall. Manbi Nyepon made four saves in goal for the Pride, who had dispatched fourth-seeded N.C. Wesleyan and top-seeded Christopher Newport to reach the title game.

The conference title is the ninth all-time for Monarchs and first with 11th-year Head Coach Justin Terranova at the helm.

The Div. III men's soccer selection show will be shown online beginning at 1:00 pm on Monday and can be seen at the following link http://www.ncaa.com/live/player?vid=2012/562&date=2012/11/05 .
