Women's Tennis Adds Two Wins

Katherine Meindl earned wins in singles and doubles

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Methodist University women's tennis team added two wins on Saturday when they knocked off Oglethorpe University and Piedmont College.

In the first match of the day, the Monarchs shut out Oglethorpe 9-0. Katherine Meindl and Laura Baker edged the Petrels 9-8 in the first doubles match while Stacey Brooks and Rachel Purser won 8-5 at number two. Hillary Petruska and Emily Talley won 8-6 at number three.

Meindl dropped the first set but came back to win 2-6, 6-4, 10-1 at the number one singles spot. Purser won 7-5, 6-0 at number two and Baker won 6-0, 6-1 at number three. Dana Powell won 6-0, 6-3 at the four spot and Kelli Shelton won 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 at number five. Lauryn Justice won 6-3, 6-2 at number six.

The Monarchs won their second match with an 8-1 victory over Piedmont. Meindl and Baker won 8-0 at number one and Brooks and Petruska combined to win 8-6 at number two. The Lions took the third match 8-3 over Sara Altman and Stephanie Hunter.

Purser won the number one singles match 6-1, 7-5 and Powell won 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 at number two. Petruska earned the 6-4, 6-2 win at number three and Justice won 6-0, 6-2 at number four. Talley took the 7-5, 6-2 win at number five and Atlman won 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 at number three.

Methodist is scheduled to take on Huntingdon on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
