FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team took a 2-1 advantage after doubles and cruised to the 6-3 win over Chowan University Wednesday afternoon.
The Monarchs won the number two and three doubles matches 8-0 with
Rachel Purser and
Stacey Brooks teaming up at number two and
Lauryn Justice and
Emily Talley combining at number three.
Dana Powell and
Kelli Shelton lost 8-1 at number one.
Methodist won the next four singles matches to take the 6-1 lead in the match and clinch the win for the team. Shelton won 6-0, 6-0 at number three and
Stephanie Hunter won 6-0, 6-0 at number six. Justice won 6-1, 6-1 at number four and Talley earned the 6-0, 6-1 win at number five. Kat Meindl lost 6-3, 6-2 at number one and
Laura Baker lost in a third set tiebreaker 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (7).
The Monarchs will travel to Mary Washington this weekend for a 1:30 p.m. match on Saturday.
