FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team used an eight-run fourth inning to take control and cruise to the 9-2 win over Randolph-Macon College Thursday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (2-2-1) scored first with an unearned run in the top of the fourth and the Monarchs were still hitless going into the bottom of the inning.
Brandon Thigpen drew the lead-off walk and
Trey Such got things going with a double to the fence in center field.
Tyler Younger singled up the middle to score Thigpen and
Trey Such scored on a wild pitch.
Chris Power and
Steven Kirby reached on errors and
Matt Quick singled to score Power.
Cody Molosky reached on an error to load the bases and Thigpen came back to the plate with a triple to right center field giving Methodist the 7-1 lead. The Monarchs (7-3) added another run when Thigpen scored on a passed ball.
Randolph-Macon added an unearned run in the fifth, but it would be their last run as the Monarchs added another run in the seventh on doubles from Such and Power.
Such finished 2-for-3 while Quick was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Thigpen, Younger, Power and Lutz added a hit apiece.
Michael Inman earned his second win with five innings pitched and two strikeouts.

Josh Ayers finished out the final four scoreless innings.
Methodist will open USA South Conference play this weekend when they travel to Greensboro College. Please note the games have been moved to Leonard Park with 2 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday.
